City of York Council is looking to make safety improvements to the junction of Hallcroft Lane and Manor Heath. Approaching from Hallcroft Lane, the junction is not always apparent until it is too late, especially to drivers who are not familiar with the village, meaning they do not stop to give way to traffic in Manor Heath. There have been several accidents at this spot, including a fatal incident last year.

Under the proposals, the junction would be widened, with the addition of a pedestrian refuge in Hallcroft Lane and an extra “give way” sign. Resurfacing of Manor Heath is due to take place in September and coloured surfacing is also being considered to replace the existing anti-skid surface to make the junction more visible.

Local residents have been consulted on the proposals and a report has been prepared. I know that many residents have concerns about this junction and I am delighted that the council is taking positive action to improve road safety in Copmanthorpe.
